Why DCP stories matter

Written by Laura Bridgens
Founder of Donor Conceived UK

“Donor conceived people (DCP) are not centred in the assisted reproductive industry and, as a result, we are often conditioned to view ourselves within the narrow constraints of language and narratives defined by others.

Secrecy, missing information and anonymity about genetic parentage can have a profound impact on our well-being, but the desire to connect with genetic family can bring loving connections into our lives and should not be seen as a threat to our parents.

Sharing the stories of and listening to the voices of DCP is important because our voices, stories and truths are valid and deserve to be heard.”

“I wish people knew how unsettling it is to not know where your family is and how many of them there are. I will never know all my brothers and sisters.”
